Different departments in media production often don‘t know a lot about the labour of the other ones which can lead to miscommunication, inefficiency and discontent. This is even more crucial in indie game development where resources are scarce and good management is crucial to success.
As a passionate audio person I aim to inspire people with this talk to be more conscious about sound in general, to start listening and discovering the magic and potential that lies therein.
Foley is one of the most playful and fun occupations in audio. It is a very graspable craft and never fails to fascinate even those who don‘t know or care much about sound in general and thus is the perfect tool to spark some audio enthusiasm among game developers.
I will introduce this art to the audience by going into its history and the differences between Foley in movies vs games. Attendees will learn how I got to know this profession and why I love it so much. They will see my favourite props in action and get a feeling for how much little differences (different shoe, floor surface, kind of dirt on surface, resonant body etc) will influence the final sound. I‘ll supply them with ideas to try out in everyday life to sharpen their ears in a playful manner.
