Dr. Viola Bensinger is a partner in the media sector and in the technology & telecommunications sector and heads the technology team in Germany. She advises clients from the media and technology industries with a special focus on companies that operate in both sectors.
Within the technology sector Viola specialises in advising international internet, technology and life sciences companies in the areas of digital products, e-commerce, electronic payment, data protection, software licensing, (IT-) outsourcing as well as digital media. She has extensive experience in advising on media and entertainment law, including license and distribution, production as well as financing issues for joint ventures relating to film, television and other media products. Viola represents film producers, distributors, TV channels and their contractors. She also advises clients on regulatory issues, especially with regard to broadcasting law and data protection law. Furthermore Viola has many years of experience in representing clients before courts or arbitration courts in disputes relating to copyright and other litigation. For many years, Viola has also built particular expertise in the areas of insolvency and restructuring for media and technology companies and has advised numerous clients in large-scale insolvency proceedings relating to their German business partners.
Dr. Viola Bensinger studied law in Cologne, Trier and Exeter/UK and obtained her PhD in 1998 from Muenster. She was admitted as Rechtsanwältin in Germany in 1997, and as solicitor in England & Wales in 2004. Before joining Olswang in 2008, Viola worked for more than 10 years for Linklaters in London and Berlin.

She has published (together with Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoeren) a text book on liability on the internet, is author of a textbook on sui-generis protection for databases, and co-author of a textbook on copyright and media law. Furthermore Viola publishes regularly in magazines, holds lectures and hosts discussions, especially on media and technology topics.
